Jul 22 – Homily – Fr Maximilian W: Mary Magdalene, the Gospel, and Us

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015
Click to Play

Homily #150722n ( 06min) Play – The parable of the sower and the seed is read in today’s Gospel and as we remember Saint Mary Magdalene, Father Maximilian tells us that we may know the Gospel, but do we live it? Or are we withered by the sacrifices it calls for and choked by the distractions of the world. For an example, he presents St. Mary Magdalene who had lived a life of sin, but came out of it and loved Our Lord so much that His first recorded appearance after the Resurrection was to her. If she can go from a life of sin to being a great saint, we also can go from sin and mediocrity to great sanctity. In both her and us, Jesus casts the seed of the Gospel, but it is we who must respond. Let us respond with a love and generosity like Mary Magdalene’s, go to the Cross, search for Jesus at the Tomb, and here Him call us by name.

May 05 – Homily – Fr Matthias: Is There an Easy Way?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2015
Click to Play

Homily #150505n ( 09min) Play – Father asks two questions: Is it necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God? Is there no easy way? Paradoxically, he tells us, the correct answer for both of these is “Yes.” He highlights for us the “Little Way” of St. Therese, who wanted to be a saint (“want,” not “like”) but saw such a difference between the saints and herself, so she looked and found the “Little Way” of confidence where we step forward and try our best, but ultimately rely on Jesus to bring us to Himself. This is the “easy way” not because we don’t have to undergo hardship, but because we undergo them while being held in the arms of Our Lord.

Mar 29 – Homily – Fr Matthias: Christ Reigns From the Cross

Sunday, March 29th, 2015
Click to Play

Homily #150329n ( 19min) Play – Father compares the gospel from the blessing of the Palms to the Passion read during Mass, and observes that in less than a week, the people went from shouting “Hosanna” to “Crucify.” The scandal of the Cross made them fall away. In this world, Our Lord reigns from the Cross, and if we are to follow Him, we must pick up our own crosses and be crucified with Him. Father presents the example of Bl. Jose Sanchez del Rio, a young boy who gave his life for “Christ the King” in Mexico less than 90 years ago. We must draw near the Cross, and be willing to swim against the current and resist the “Lord of this World.” The only persons to remain faithful to Our Lord, are those who went with Our Lady, let us go to Her so as not to wimp out when we encounter the Cross.

Jul 01 – Homily – Fr Matthias: The Precious Blood and the Virtue of Modesty

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014
Click to Play

Homily #140701n ( 09min) Play – Father preaches on the importance to preserve our purity, a purity we receive from being washed in the Precious Blood of Our Lord. One of the most important means for preserving purity in ourselves in others, that is, the Christian virtue of modesty. Father reminds us of the importance of modesty, and, as the popes have taught, we have a duty to strive to preserve modesty and combat the “shameless styles” of our age, even if it means discomfort and scorn. For it is out of Love and Gratitude to the Precious Blood of Our Lord shed on the Cross that we must fight to preserve the purity of our souls.

Homily #130403 ( 06min) Play

We see in today’s Gospel that the same disciples who fell asleep in the Garden on the night before Our Lord’s Passion are awake all night fishing. We, too, can make big sacrifices for earthly, and even sinful, desires, but do we have a similar generosity when it comes to the service of Our Lord? Where is our heart?
