April 27 – St. Pio Daily – Damaging Our Neighbor

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

“Blasphemes, impure conversations, and lies are all vices and sins that constitute the old man, the earthly man, the carnal man. It is of these [vices] that the Apostle Paul wants the Christian to strip himself, because from these are born deceptions, perjuries, and thousands of other kinds of mischief that we commit to the damage of our neighbor.”

April 26 – St. Pio Daily – Indignation & Malice

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

“Indignation is a vice that sprouts from anger. One has it when he esteems others unworthy of possessing what he has; it would like to see the other humiliated and degraded with chastisement. The vice of malice, instead, which proceeds both from anger and indignation, tries every way and adapts every means to cause damage to his neighbor.”

Roving Reporter #62 – Young men with Roman collars invade the CT State Capitol ( 06min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

While we were at the Connecticut State Capitol to cover the vote on gay ‘marriage’ and the related religious liberty issues, we ran into Fr. Doug Mosey the rector of Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, CT and several of his seminarians. They were there in force to support the adding of conscientious objection clauses in the bill for religious organizations and in support of religious liberty for all Americans. In the interview he gives a fascinating account of Holy Apostles and the people who attend.

April 25 – St. Pio Daily – Anger

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

“Anger is a moral passion common even to the just man. In and of itself it is not a sin; but if one does not know how to manage it, it becomes sinful: as it would be to get angry with someone with whom we should not, or to get angry before we should, or about what we should not. This kind of anger the Apostle Paul tells us to get rid of. Speaking of this, even St. James wants that ‘And let every man be…slow to anger. For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God’”.

Love of God is shown in Obedience

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Ave Maria Meditations

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

10 commandments

This whole matter of making our lives a ‘Mass’ can be simplified (with anything but an oversimplification”) by the one word: obedience.

Jesus Christ did not redeem mankind by suffering. Jesus Christ did not repair the shattered fabric of creation by dying. Jesus Christ did not reconcile sinful man with the all-holy God by thorns, scourge, nails, or lance. Jesus Christ re-created the universe by obedience; or, better still, by love – for what is obedience in root, stem, and flower but love for the one commanding?

Roving Reporter #61 – Peter Wolfgang on religious liberty in CT ( 07min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

We went to the Connecticut State Capitol yesterday to get the scoop on the efforts to protect religious freedom in the face of the impending vote on the same-sex ‘marriage’ bill and Peter Wolfgang of the Family Institute of CT (FIC) generously gave the Roving Reporter and interview. As predicted, the bill passed the Senate and the House but not before having some important amendments attached that at least partially protect foundational liberties thanks to the action of FIC, the Knights of Columbus, the National Organization for Marriage and the 20,000 Connecticut citizens who called their legislators. The Hartford Currant has a full story of some of the secular points but as Peter Wolfgang points out in one of the FIC’s emails:

Make no mistake: The amendment is not perfect and SB 899 itself is the result of an illegitimate court ruling, not the will of the people. … An FIC-supported amendment to require parents be notified before “gay-friendly” curricula are taught in schools and be allowed to “opt out” was defeated in the Senate and the House. Watch for more information on that vote and what you can do about it.

Well, most of the points that FIC and friends pushed for were added to the amendment which had been rejected by the Judiciary Committee a few weeks earlier. A good day for liberty. Deo Gratias!

CT: SB 899 Passes with protection for religious liberty

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

from the Family Institute of CT
SB 899 Passes–But *Only* After Being Amended to Protect Religious Liberty!
The headline on The Courant’s website nicely summarizes the end result of the fight over SB 899: “Amendment Gives Religious Organizations Exemption to Same-Sex Ruling.” Make no mistake: The amendment is not perfect and SB 899 itself is the result of an illegitimate court ruling, not the will of the people.
That said, the bill passed last night is a significant improvement for religious liberty in the wake of that ruling. After the Kerrigan same-sex “marriage” decision, religious liberty in Connecticut was left wide open to each and every one of the ssm-related attacks on it that have occurred elsewhere. The amendment passed last night goes beyond Kerrigan and gives protections to religious liberty in Connecticut that Kerrigan did not. The amendment also gives religious liberty many of the protections which were explicitly rejected by the Judiciary Committee last month. (more…)

Apr 23 – Homily – Fr Ignatius: Blessed Giles of Assisi

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009
Click to Play

Homily #090423 ( 04min) Play – Two companions from Assisi had already joined St. Francis, when Giles, a well-to-do young man of the town, heard about it. He went to the poor hermitage close by Assisi, which the three occupied; and, prostrate upon his knees, he begged St. Francis to accept him into his company. Francis presented him to the other two, saying: “See here a good brother whom almighty God has sent us.” This was on April 23, 1209. On the same day, both went to Assisi, where Giles begged in God’s name for a bit of cloth to make a habit. Giles divided his entire fortune among the poor.   -secularfranciscans.org
