“Chrysostom, on speaking of vainglory says: ‘The more rightly you act to repress vainglory, the more you rouse it’; and what is the cause of this? Let us allow the same saint and doctor tell us: ‘because all vices are born from evil. Only vainglory proceeds from good, and therefore it is not extinguished with good but it is more nourished by it.’
