The Cornerstone #8 – All Scotists and Thomists agree that Jesus came to redeem fallen mankind >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
Some object to the Franciscan thesis on the Incarnation by quoting the Creed: “For us men and for our salvation He came down from Heaven.” Fr. Maximilian responds to this objection and demonstrates how Bl. John Duns Scotus and the Franciscan position on the absolute primacy of Christ does not downplay Christ’s role as our Redeemer. Man sinned; Jesus came for our Redemption. However, He did not come primarily, let alone exclusively, to redeem us. Discover also how St. Irenaeus does not equate “salvation” with “redemption”.Ave Maria!

Ave Maria!
Today the Franciscans celebrate the feast of a humble Capuchin Friar, St. Felix of Cantalice (1513-1587).
Let us remember as we listen to this homily that God prefers humble persons to shame the proud and those that are wise in their own eyes.

Today’s edition of The Times mentions what they believe would be a triumph for the Catholic Church, when it would only serve to add another high profile Cafeteria Catholic to the fold…or would it?
Tony Blair, who publicly and boldly disagreed with Cardinal Hume’s 1996 demand that he should stop receiving Holy Communion at his wife’s parish in Islington because he is not Catholic, has apparently confided to Fr. Michael Seed, a priest who says Mass for his family, that he intends to join the Church upon his leaving Downing St.
Of course, upon further questioning of Fr. Seed by the press, he mentioned that he does not know whether Blair will formally become a member of the Church, but intimated that he was a “Catholic by desire” — that he went to Mass weekly and didn’t need to formally convert. “He is an ecumenical Catholic. He is a liberal Catholic. In terms of his private life, he’s a Roman Catholic.”
Comments from a former Downing Street Communications chief, who basically downplayed the suggestion that Blair would convert, included the following statement: “We don’t do God.”
I just don’t think that statement is going to fly at their particular judgment!!
Blair’s ‘Baptism of Desire’
By the way, in a related Times article, it is postulated that Blair delayed his conversion for the sake of peace in Ireland. I’m not thinking that reasoning would go over too well at the pearly gates, either!
Did he delay conversion for sake of Irish peace?
Hopefully Fr. Seed will get his facts straight about what is required to be a faithful, practicing Catholic and will share a healthy dose of the truth with Mr. Blair very soon, instead of serving him whatever junk food he likes in the cafeteria line! That way he can perhaps save both of their souls!

Ave Maria!
“They were stirring times in Tuscany when Margaret was born. They were the days of Manfred and Conradin, of the Guelphs and Ghibellines in Italy, when passions of every kind ran high, and men lived at great extremes. They were times of great sinners, but also of great saints; Margaret lived to hear of the crowning and resignation of St. Celestine V, whose life and death are a vivid commentary on the spirits that raged throughout that generation. It was the age of St. Thomas in Paris, of Dante in Florence; of Cimabue and Giotto; of the great cathedrals and universities.”

No Apologies #8 – Fra Joseph explains how Noah’s Ark, Jacob’s Ladder and the Burning Bush all point to Mary >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
In previous episodes Fra Joseph explained how different people in the Old Testament prefigured Mary. Today he describes how Mary is prefigured by three different things in the Old Testament: Noah’s Ark, Jacob’s Ladder and the Burning Bush. Noah’s ark prefigures Mary’s Immaculate Conception and Spiritual Maternity. Jacob’s ladder is a sign of Mary’s Mediation between heaven and earth. And, the burning bush prefigures how Mary conceived Jesus virginally and remained a virgin even through Jesus’ birth. Listen to Fra Joseph as he gives this Biblical evidence of Catholic Marian Dogmas.

Ave Maria!
Today we honor the little-known apostle, St. Matthias: “Clement of Alexandria says that Matthias, like all the other apostles, was not chosen by Jesus for what he already was, but for what Jesus foresaw he would become.?? [Quote from Catholic Online] Fr. Bonaventure tells us that if we are to sum up the mission of the apostles, it is to bring the Mother of God to all mankind so that they may come to possess the gift she intends to give: Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Son of Mary.

Ave Maria!
There is a price to pay for every word that Our Lord has given us, and Fr. Bonaventure never shrinks from explaining that price. Today’s Gospel leads us to ask the question, “How are we to enter into the peace of Christ??? and Fr. Bonaventure answers by stating that peace actually comes from conflict, from doing battle against “the Spirit of the Age??, i.e. Satan. Evidence of the ascendency of Satan is seen in the leaders of our own society, who insist that the acceptance of certain perversions, certain sins against nature, are the basis of human sanity. The camp of Christ is always warring with the camp of Satan, and we will overcome Satan when we lean on our greatest weapons: prayer, penance, the Holy Eucharist, and the intercession of the Mother of All Graces.
Fr. Bonaventure also speaks on the many misuderstandings regarding the coming of the Antichrist, the second coming of Christ, and the end of the world as we know it.

Face of Pro-Life #8 – Host Corinn Dahm with Bill O’Brien and Joe Collison (29min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
Among the topics in this episode, Corinn and her guests give a historical overview of the Connecticut Pro-Life movement and discuss how, prior to Roe vs. Wade, this was the strongest pro-life state in the nation. In 1829, it was the first state in the country to pass a pro-life law protecting the “unborn child” (so stated in the law) from the point of quickening (approximately half-way through the pregnancy) to birth. This law was implemented in all states and augmented by the AMA (American Medical Association) in the 1850s, when scientific evidence demonstrated that the unborn child was a human being from the moment of conception.
Corinn also notes that as various states today have been successfully passing traditional marriage legislation, a similar movement was afield in the early 1970s when states were passing a wave of abortion bans, all of which were ultimately struck down by Roe vs. Wade. (May God spare us from repeating such a disaster.)
The panel also discusses the sexualizing of our third and fourth-grade children with a scandalous book written by a Planned Parenthood executive entitled “It’s Perfectly Normal”. [Note: If your child is in public schooling, be aware of what is being taught to them!!! Please get involved with their education!]
Corinn and her guests also put out a call to pro-lifers to join their local town committees, which is were politics and educational decision-making begins.

Ave Maria!
??Immaculate Mary, Who are You??? Before we love Our Lady, we must look upon her, and yet once we look upon her, we cannot help but love her. She is the highest honor of our race, and on this day the Franciscans of the Immaculate mark the 90th anniversary of her appearance to 3 insignificant children in Fatima, Portugal. Christ is described as the Icon, the perfect image, of the Father; Our Lady is the icon of prayer and penance and devotion because of her co-redemptive love of Jesus, her willingness to give everything to the Father. We must flood our lives with devotion to Our Lady, for nothing is more pleasing to Christ, and whatever is most pleasing to Christ is most pleasing to the Father. Listen now to Fr. Angelo’s words and insights on the wonder of Fatima and its relevance in our daily activities.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray always for us!

The Cornerstone #7 – Predestination in Christ “before the foundation of the world” >>> Play |
|
|
|
Ave Maria!
The entire philosophical and theological school of Bl. John Duns Scotus hinges upon predestination. In order for anyone to be predestined “before the foundation of the world” in Christ Jesus as God’s adopted children, God must first predestine the Sacred Humanity of Christ! In this program Fr. Maximilian begins to unveil how Ephesians 1:3-12 presupposes the absolute primacy of Christ and how it indicates other motives of the Incarnation than Redemption from sin.
