A Few Shots from the FI’s in Africa

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Notice the lion proof bars over the windows.

While I was in England, Fr. Alfonso gave me a few photos from the friars in Africa, and it wasn’t until I got back to America that I took a look at them. So you’ll have to forgive me for not having anything to write about the pictures. (more…)

Ave Maria!

The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in India have launched their official web site IndiaMariae.com and, as usual, Fr. Martin Mary, FI did a beautiful job with the graphics and content in very adverse conditions. Of note is an interesting article on the friars mission there: Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in India.  It looks like the beginnings of a great chapter in the saga of the FI.  Deo Gratias!

Fi News #68 – Bushfire at Perth Friary ! ( 05min) >>> Play

In the afternoon of March 1st, 2010 a bushfire started near the friary in Perth, Australia and grew quickly. It jumped the main road and approached our backyard. We decided to evacuate the friary. We took the Blessed Sacrament, a few liturgical items of worth, a few personal items (passports, etc.) and the computers and loaded up the cars. We turned on the lawn sprinklers on the side facing the fire, closed all windows and doors, placed a statue of Our Lady to watch over the fire and drove down the road to a safe distance to wait it out. Roads were blocked by the police. After noticing that the smoke in the immediate area of the friary had died down and after the police told us the friary was ok, we went to a benefactor’s house for something to eat and drink only to be allowed back onto the property around 10:00pm. Damage was limited to a few sheds in the area, no homes or loss of life but about 47 hectares (115 acres) burned.

Fi News #67 – Fr. Gabriel Pellettieri visits Perth ( 08min) >>> Play

For the Franciscans of the Immaculate in Perth, Western Australia, the beginning of Lent was not so penitential this year, as they were blessed to have the visit of Fr. Gabriel M. Pellettieri, our Cofounder. He arrived in Perth after a visit to the Philippines and, after staying a week in Perth visiting the friars and sisters, he returned to Italy.

Immaculate Music #29 – A Beautiful Sung Version of the Creed ( 10min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

On January 6th, 2010, the Franciscan Friars in Italy had the privilege of celebrating the Traditional Mass with Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos, President Emeritus of Ecclesia Dei. We hope you enjoy viewing some of the scenes from the Mass and listening to the Creed which was sung during the Mass and directed by Alessandro Pucci and Andrea Ferranti. The name of the chorus (in Italian) is the “Schola Cantorum ‘Santa Cecilia’ di Corridonia e Coro di Cloumurano”.

Friar Terrance sends ‘Ave Maria!’s and prayers to all.

Roving Reporter #87 – Friar Terrance visits Friar Anthony and Friar Josemaria ( 10min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Friar Terrance goes “on assignment” (from his Mother) to Italy in preparation for philosophy and theology studies.  Before reaching his destiny at Campocavallo, Italy – a stones’ throw away from the House of Loreto – he had a chance to sit down with Friar Anthony Servium and Friar Josemaria who are beginning philosophy studies at Villa Santa Lucia.  What have these two friars been doing since their departure from the states, and what’s it like in the place that they’re now in?  Listen now and here about their adventures and also what priestly formation is like as a Franciscan Friar of the Immaculate.  (We hope you enjoy the scenes from Southern Italy.)

North American Martyrs

Ave Maria Meditations

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

To the Greater Glory of God!

Prayer: Father, you consecrated the first beginnings of the faith in North America by preaching and martyrdom of Saints John & Isaac and their companions. By the help of their prayers may the Christian faith continue to grow throughout the world. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

October 19 commemorates the martyrdom of six priests of the Society of Jesus and their two lay companions who worked with them tirelessly.

Blessed Junipero Serra
Also known as the Apostle of California
The incredible story of a Franciscan friar past the age of 50 and with a bad leg established the California missions:
Miquel Joseph Serra was born and baptized on November 24, 1713 in the small town of Petra on the island of Mallorca, Spain. At the age of fifteen, Serra left home to enter the Franciscan University in nearby Palma to study philosophy. When Serra was seventeen, he decided to join the Franciscan Order.

Ave Maria!

Our website for our worldwide mission operations is back on-line thanks to Fr. Martin Mary, beautiful job!

From the about:

MISSIOMARIAE.NET tries to achieve ultimately in its own little way the very purpose of Christ’s Incarnation and Redemption, namely, that souls be saved and the Kingdom of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus might reign in every heart. Hence, it is but fitting to underscore the doctrinal and practical purpose of the site.

My God, if You exist, make Your existance known to me!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

A cry from the heart: My God, if You exist, make Your existance known to me!

from Bl. Charles de Foucauld before his conversion

CdF

As soon as I believed there was a God, I understood I could do nothing else but live for him, my religious vocation dates from the same moment as my faith: God is so great. There is such a difference between God and everything that is not.
