Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Nov 24, 2022, on Thanksgiving Day in the USA, on how we must give thanks to God. To remember the elements of prayer, you can use the acronym A.C.T.S.: Adoration, Contrition/Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. And how thanksgiving makes the other elements effective.

Don't be like swine that eat acorns without looking up at the trees from where they come

Being grateful for what we have already received is our way of giving back, even if it is inadequate. However, we will be worthy to receive further gifts. Ecclesiastes 1: 7 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/ecclesiastes/1?7

Water that you release returns back to us as we are grateful for the graces received

If we aren't thankful, we will become like dead waters that have water flow in but do not flow out, like the Dead Sea

St John Chrysostom - When you give, don't boast; forget when we give, but when we receive, then we should never forget.

Make sure we give thanks after mass for what we have received.

Ave Maria!
