Ave Maria!

No matter how great the injury, we must forgive. This is the thread Fr. Joachim picks up on from Today’s Gospel. He notes that when we pray the Our Father, we offer to the Father the very words of His own Son, and we must put into practice what those words truly mean.

The Golden Thread #6 – Fr. Peter dispels confusion in regard to Vatican II >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Is the world our friend or enemy?

In this 6th show in his series, The Golden Thread, Fr. Peter Mary Fehlner discusses the Church’s relation to the world in the light of the Second Vatican Council. He points out that the source of much of the widely varying interpretations of the Council which have caused so much confusion to the faithful is the multitude of different meanings of the word “world.” Fr. Peter clarifies these meanings and in this way helps us to see that Vatican II did not represent a break with past teaching. He also talks about the relative and absolute meanings of the words “autonomous” and “secular” and whether our dependence on God is predicamental or transcendent. All in the light of the theology of the Marian Doctor, Bl. John Duns Scotus.

Ave Maria!

Love your neighbor as yourself.

We can see how this reading would prepare Our Lord’s disciples for what He teaches them in today’s Gospel.

We love our neighbor out of a motive of Divine Charity, which far surpasses that love found in the natural order.

Fr. Joachim Mudd is currently a novice with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in Griwold, CT, so this is an anomaly – a novice giving a homily! Enjoy.

Ave Maria!

Fr. Angelo touches on the need to avoid temptation as he preaches on Today’s Gospel the Temptation of Christ in the Desert. Temptation is the battle that everyone undergoes to become like Christ. However, since we are so unlike Christ, who was God, we should not walk into temptation. But we are to follow his example in being humble. For our Lord it was a humbling experience, dealing with Satan’s temptations in the desert for our benefit. We, on the other hand, find humility by fleeing temptation, which is the near occasion of sin. Father talks about the nature of Christ’s temptation, the need to honor Christ as King in all His perfection as opposed to making Him just another Joe and to honor Mary, His greatest Masterpiece. He also mentions the need for the sacraments and to know the dispositions of contrition found in the traditional Act of Contrition.

Now is the time for repentance and Mercy. Let us make use of it.

??Our Lord did not come to save the self-righteous??

Using the example of the self-righteous Pharisees in Today’s Gospel Fr. Bonaventure calls us to meditate this lent on how only the humble and repentant soul receives God’s mercy, that we must embrace the Cross and to walk in its light, our one true hope. We are to do this at the Holy Sacrifice of Mass where we will find Our Lady and become her little child.

Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary have Mercy on us!

They also discuss the main source of impurity in our culture is contraception, and this leads to abortion, the culture of death. Holy Mary, Queen of America, pray for us.

Update: Notes and Explanations have been added. See the viewing page.

Using Christmas and the adoration of the magi and shepherds as a starting point, Fr. Peter outlines the key to Christian thinking according to John Duns Scotus, that is, contemplation of Truth. This is opposed to the modern mentality that says ‘I can’t believe unless I can analyze it.’ It is Mary who makes it possible for finite creatures like us to see the infinite God, for in the person of Jesus, Truth is made flesh. And in adoring our Lord, Mary and St. Joseph teach us to think like Christians and so enable us to be happy.

Homily #16 – Fr. Bonaventure makes the distinction of hating the sin but loving the sinner. >>> Play

Ave Maria!

In today’s Gospel Reading Our Lord tells us to “love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” and “Stop judging and you will not be judged.” Fr. Bonaventure points out that this does not mean (as so many interpret it today) as meaning we should not declare what is wrong. But rather that we should do so in charity, loving the sinner and hating the sin. In fact, because we do love our neighbor, we should proclaim the truth firmly and even be stern when needed, following the example of Our Lord.
