Frequent Holy Communion: A Gift Requiring Interior Disposition – Aug 21 – Homily – Fr Josemaria

Fr. Josemaria Barbin gives the homily, on how Pope St. Pius X's vision to restore all things in Christ is realized through frequent Holy Communion, made most fruitful by receiving it in union with Mary.

Fr. Josemaria Barbin begins by recalling Pope St. Pius X's pontifical motto, "instaurare omnia in Christo" (to restore all things in Christ). To achieve this, Pope Pius X led the faithful to Christ, especially through the Eucharist, where He is present body, blood, soul, and divinity. Among his reforms, he lowered the age for First Communion and strongly encouraged frequent, even daily, Holy Communion. Fr. Barbin stresses that this frequent reception is a gift from the Lord and the Church, and its fruits depend on our interior dispositions. The most effective way to make frequent Holy Communion fruitful is to receive it "in union with Mary." St. Louis de Montfort, in *True Devotion to Mary*, teaches this practice, explaining that we should prepare with Our Lady before Communion, receive the Lord in union with her during Communion (through an actual intention and recollection), and make our thanksgiving in union with her afterwards. Marianizing the practice of Holy Communion, by allowing Mary's presence to permeate it, ensures its fruitfulness in our souls. Mary's maternal role is to intensify personal contact with her Son, and she effectively restores all things in Christ, especially through our union with her in the Eucharist.
