Fr. Joseph Michael McShane gives the homily on how Jesus calls every person right where they are in life, inviting us, like St. Matthew, to leave behind our sins and attachments, encounter His mercy, and eagerly share His love with others.

In this homily for the Feast of St. Matthew, we are reminded that Jesus does not wait for us to become holy before He calls us into a relationship with Him. St. Matthew was a wealthy tax collector who was looked down upon as a sinner and a traitor, yet the moment Jesus called him, he dropped everything to follow Him. Matthew immediately wanted to share this life-changing love with others, so he hosted a dinner to introduce his fellow tax collectors and sinners to Jesus. This powerful example shows us that no matter our past mistakes or sins, Christ never gives up on us. We are encouraged to turn to Jesus through Confession, strive for daily spiritual growth, and enthusiastically share our faith with those around us.
