Jesus Shows Mercy to St. Peter After Betrayal – May 22 – Homily – Fr Dominic

Views 5

Fr Dominic gives the homily at Griswold, CT, on May 22, 2026, describing how Jesus restored St. Peter after his threefold denial through a threefold affirmation of love and a call to feed His sheep as leader of the Church.
In his homily, Fr. Dominic reflects on Jesus' mercy towards St. Peter. Despite Peter denying Jesus three times, the Lord did not abandon him. After Peter's deep repentance, Jesus appeared to him and restored him to his position as the leader of the Apostles and the Church. By the charcoal fire, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him, countering the betrayal with an affirmation of love. He commissioned Peter to feed his sheep and lambs, instructing him to follow in his footsteps and ultimately to lay down his life for the flock. Peter remained faithful for about 35 years as Pope, the longest-serving, and died a martyr. We are encouraged to seek St. Peter's intercession to remain faithful to Christ until the end.
