Fr John Lawrence gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Aug 17, 2023, on the life of St. Beatrice of Silva, who started the Conceptionist Poor Clares, and outlines the notable members of this great order.

Today's Gospel teaches us the importance of forgiveness. If God forgives our vast sins, we should forgive minor offenses by others. [Matthew 18:21-35 - Peter asks Jesus about forgiveness, and Jesus tells the parable of the unforgiving servant - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/matthew/18?21-35]

Saint Beatrice of Silva, born in Ceuta, faced jealousy in the court. Wrongly accused, she was imprisoned but was miraculously saved after praying to Mary Immaculate.

She later founded the Order of the Immaculate Conception. Despite challenges, the order flourished globally. Notable members include Venerable Inés de San Pablo, who promoted Marian consecration, and Venerable María de Jesús Tomelín, who faced trials with humility. Venerable Mary of Agreda bi-located to teach Native Americans and wrote "The Mystical City of God."

Venerable Maria de Los Ángeles Sorazu emphasized Mary's role in uniting us with God. She wrote about her spiritual growth through Marian devotion.

Let's consecrate ourselves to Our Lady and seek sanctity.
