Accepting our God-given Mission – May 23 – Homily – Fr Ignatius

Fr Ignatius gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on May 23, 2023, reflecting on today's readings, which underscore the significance of accepting and accomplishing our God-given mission. The fall of the angels that transformed them into demons, was due to their rebellion against God's intended purpose for them. Yet, those who accepted their mission glorified God.

Jesus, too, in today's Gospel, confirmed his fulfillment of God's redemptive mission on earth. St Paul, in the first reading, shows his intent to complete his mission, bearing witness to the Gospel, despite forewarned hardships. St Francis, nearing his life's end, urged his brethren to fulfill their individual assignments, as he had fulfilled his.

The message is clear: accept and carry out our divine assignment with love and perseverance till the end, despite adversities.
