Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Apr 04, 2023, on how St. Peter denies Jesus despite his best intentions and his many protests, and his demonstration of bravado by pulling out his sword in the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter's problem was that he did not understand the nature of the battle, that it was not about swords which Jesus told him to put away, nor any worldly strength, but rather the battle to embrace our weakness and to confront our pride. He was able to stand up to the strong soldiers at Christ's arrest but not the maidservant while warming his hands.
