Choose the Church not the Extremes – Mar 09 – Homily – Fr Matthias

 

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Mar 09, 2023, on how the proper response to concerns that are very prevalent among Catholics today regarding abuses of authority in the Church to stay in the Church and use the provisions and mechanisms available to address them.  He then outlines exaggerated, erroneous ways of responding that fall into two categories: The first is to say, "There is abuse in the Church; therefore, reject all church authority."  The other regards teaching and to say "The Church's recent teaching is sometimes ambiguous or is not binding in all cases, so we can ignore all recent teachings"

He affirms the need to stay in the Church, even acknowledging how confusing things are today, pointing out that there were times in history of even more confusion, and we survived. However confusing things are, they will be more so if you leave the Church, rejecting its authority.

The true solution is true devotion to Mary, Our Holy Mother, and this will help to have calm and clarity in turbulent times in order to stay true to our Holy Father, Pope.
