Ave Maria Meditations
Arise, O Lord, and let Thy enemies be scattered, and let them that hate Thee flee from before Thy Face. (Ps 68:1)
When Jesus appeared in public the people surrounded Him avid to see Him and to hear Him saying “No man has ever spoken like Him.” He is very different from Moses, this God-man did not put a veil over His Face but showed Himself to everyone’s gaze. His face was truly the mirror of His soul, the brightness of His Heart, the visible manifestation of His interior sentiments. Is it astonishing that people were enraptured at His appearance? You also draw near: contemplate this Face both divine and human with avidity; listen with respect to the words of His mouth and love to hear your Savior, to ask Him questions and have converse with Him. Yet in a few days, all this adulation would be nowhere to be seen.
