Do the Impossible: Love Your Enemies – Mar 12 – Homily – Fr Terrance

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Mar 12, 2022, on how loving our enemies seems impossible but with the example and help of Christ we can do this and it is very pleasing to Him.

From sermon on the mount, love your enemies

Seems loving our enemies is completely unnatural

Love is not primarily an emotion

God is love so his words on this should be listened to.

Can love people who are making you angry. Like a parent who is angry with their child, but still loves them.

Attributes of Christ and Mary can all be attributed to Love. That is, we can understand Love by looking at these attributes.

Mary is standing on the moon. Our emotions are like lunatics, changeable like our emotions. Mary is a symbol of love, true love rules our emotions. If it does not, then it is not true.

Love is meant to rule our emotions not the other way around

must see the potential of good in others even the worst acting

Loving those who have injured us. God's logic. At least need to pray for enemies.

We learn to love our enemies by following Jesus' example and by trusting in his grace

We must be at least better than the non-believers, for even they can love those who love them.

Christ's compassion is love in action.

Mercy, Perfection and Holiness are all the same in God's eye because they are all expressions of love and becoming holy is becoming like God who is love.
