The Life of Bl. Mark of Bologna, Confessor, First Order (d. 1479) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Oct 5. Mark was born in Bologna of wealth and education but entered the Franciscans where he grew rapidly in sanctity and knowledge and was elected provincial and then elected vicar-general. He was an effective preacher and diplomat and was known for humility, evading many requests for ever-higher honors in the Church.

Reflection is on the acknowledgment of our guilt as exemplified by Bl. Mark of Bologna. Seeing our guilt is a sign of sanctity where our consciences become much more sensitive.
Without this grace, we tend to make excuses as did Adam and Eve.
Tendency to make excuses comes from pride and lack of sanctity.
