The Life of S. of God Martin of Valencia, Confessor, First Order (d. 1534) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Aug 31. Martin discerned that he was to be a missionary and soon found the opportunity in Mexico in New Spain where he took place in the miraculous conversion of this vast people. He died on one of his apostolic travels.

Reflection is on God's solicitude for his Church where the very number that was lost in northern Europe due to the Protestant revolt was gained by the conversion of Mexico. We can take solace that this will continue no matter what happens to Christendom let us pray and use the graces that we have been given.
