The Life of "Bl." Queen Blanche of France, Widow, Third Order (1188-1252) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Aug 23. Queen Blanche was born in Castille and married King Louis VIII of France and is the mother of King St. Louis IX. She acted as regent during his reign as a mere youth of twelve years old and during his absence while on a crusade.

Reflection is on venial sin, that although it does not condemn a soul to hell it does diminish our sanctity, causes God's displeasure, and merits time in purgatory, and can lead to mortal sin by weakening our moral strength.
