The Life of S. of God John of Piano di Carpine, Confessor, First Order (c. 1185-1252) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Jul 31. S. of God John of Piano di Carpine was an early companion of st Francis who went to Spyer and Saxony and provincial of Germany, spreading the order throughout this area. sent to great Kahn by the pope and went to Mongolia, returning successfully, when he was made Archbishop of Dalmatia in 1252 soon before his death
