Coronavirus Crisis Reminds: Be Spiritually Prepared – Feb 24 – Homily – Fr Alan

In the homily for Monday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time (Feb 24, 2020), Fr. Alan notes that prayer should be our primary preparation in anticipation of the possible spread of the coronavirus epidemic in our own region. With Lent just days away, this public health crisis gives a particular urgency to the perennial need for vigilance over the state of our soul, since our Lord taught us to be always watchful and ready, “because you do not know the day or the hour” (Mt 25:13).

Prayer is the first step for discerning God’s will for our personal response to crisis, and for being attentive to the state of our immortal soul. With awareness, and relying on God’s providence and assistance, we should seek reconciliation and the sacraments, and thus spiritually prepared, we should seek to be of service to our neighbor in the time of need.
