Why the Anomalies in Jesus’ Genealogy? – Dec 17 – Homily – Fr Andre

In the homily for Dec 17, 2019 (Tuesday of the Third Week of Advent), Fr. Andre comments on the deep mysteries contained in today's seemingly straightforward Gospel reading, the genealogy of Jesus Christ, from the beginning of St. Matthew's gospel. The genealogy reveals Jesus' Marian lineage and Messianic identity, through the mysterious anomalies in the recounting of the lineage of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the Holy Family. The lineage of every member of the family, both natural and supernatural, is known and connected with Messianic prophecy, ordained by divine decree and revealed from the beginning (Gen. 3:15) and over the course of the Old (Isa 7:14, Isa 9:6, Mic 5:2) and New Testament (Mt 1:16, Mt 1:18-25, Lk 1:26-38, Jn 1:13).
