“Be on your guard! Overcome evil with good.”- Nov 11 – Homily – Fr Josemaria
Views 648
On the memorial of St. Martin of Tours (Nov 11, 2019, also Veterans Day), Fr. Josemaria expounds on today's Gospel and Our Lord's exhortation to "Be on your guard!” (Lk 17:3). The key to not only spiritual survival but to personal and social renewal is for good people to overcome evil by actively doing good works.
The principle of solidarity that links all human beings one to another is the reason our individual good works benefit all of society. To aid and abet those who would spread evil by their wicked deeds, we need only sit back and do nothing. To “overcome evil with good” (Rom 12:21), we must do the good!
To read about the concept of solidarity, see Pope St. John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation “RECONCILIATION AND PENANCE” (Reconciliatio et Paenitentia) para. 16, heading: “Personal Sin and Social Sin” (http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/apost_exhortations/documents/hf_jp-ii_exh_02121984_reconciliatio-et-paenitentia.html
