Not Circumstances, but What We Do Determines Holiness – Sep 18 – Homily – Fr Matthias

On the feast of St. Joseph of Cupertino (OFM Conv. Priest, Sep 18, 2019), Fr. Matthias draws a lesson from the life of this saint. His great holiness, manifest in mystical gifts, but even more so in his love of God and for souls, was the fruit of his interior attitude, independent of his exterior circumstances which weren't the most favorable for producing sanctity. The lesson for us is to not think that our holiness depends on the good or bad conduct of those around us, but rather only on our willingness to conform ourselves to Christ.
St. Joseph of Cupertino corresponded faithfully with grace by constantly striving for virtue in the spirit of Christian self-denial, thus giving grace a willing nature upon which to work and improve.
