Augustine and Monica: Sign of Complementarity, not Conflict – Aug 28 – Homily – Fr Matthias

Views 698

On the memorial of St. Augustine (Bishop and Doctor of the Church, Aug 28, 2019), Fr. Matthias reflects on the relationship between this extraordinary saint and his saintly mother, Monica (Aug 27). These exemplary saints reflect the proper relationship of women and men to the Church, and the natural role and social function of each of the sexes, per God’s design for human society.

A proper understanding of and appreciation for the complementarity and diversity of the sexes can restore Church and society to a state of health and harmony, and overcome the fabricated tensions of the destructive socialistic view of humanity.

“For if the man is the head, the woman is the heart, and as he occupies the chief place in ruling, so she may and ought to claim for herself the chief place in love.”  Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii (https://w2.vatican.va/content/pius-xi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_19301231_casti-connubii.html)
