Baptismal Duty to Speak Prophetically, like John the Baptist – Jun 24 – Homily – Fr Alan

On the occasion of the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (Jun 24, 2019), Fr. Alan points to the example of the Baptist as the ideal of the Christian baptismal duty to be prophets. Just as in the time of Christ, when the corruption of morals required that John go before Him to “make straight the way of the Lord,” so today, widespread sin and moral confusion imply the duty of all the baptized to speak prophetically, that the Truth be known and welcomed by those desiring salvation.

That is why the Second Vatican Council and recent popes St. Paul VI and St. John Paul II have called for the “new evangelization,” in which we are all called to participate.
