Ave Maria Meditations
Station X: Jesus is stripped of his garments
Even this humiliation Jesus endured for us…as an example to us of what we can endure for love. Christ’s indignities are not only the price He paid for our pride, but also an encouragement to follow Him along the path of humility. Here, the Lord teaches us that humility sometime requires humiliation and discipline that God uses to help us persevere.
O Jesus, help me to throw off all my garments of pride and self-righteousness in reparation for the sins that caused others to so cruelly demean You, our sweet Lord and Savior. As You were stripped of the dignity that You so deserved, so too are the aborted babies, the disabled, the mentally ill and the elderly. How often have I not wanted to look or approach those who are different yet no less deserving of honor and dignity. Give me Your heart, Jesus, to always love and reach out to the shamed, rejected, unpopular…especially those who have been stripped of their dignity.
After each Station, pray “Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee”
