- Over the course of Holy Week, the Mass readings present us with Isaiah's four songs of “servant of the Lord.” In today's reading, we get a foretaste of the evil that the Lord's servant will have to face. This prophecy is realized in Christ's Passion & Resurrection, and in today's Gospel, we see both the references to apparent defeat and the announcement of God's glorification through His servant. The Song of the Lord's Servant, read in the light of the New Testament, also foretells the universality of salvation in Christ, whose mission extends to the “ends of the earth.” In this aspect of the Servant's mission, we recognize our own participation in the prophecy.

Ave Maria!
