Nov 29 – Homily – Fr Louis Maximilian: How the Franciscans Have So Many Saints

Views 1198

Homily #141129n ( 11min) Play - As we remember all the saints of the Franciscan Order, Father particularly draws our attention to the great many who have been canonized. But what is it that makes this charism so rich in saints? Father Louis lists three things. First, we have the same calling that St. Francis received, "Go rebuild my Church." Second, we have the example of St. Francis in answering this call, and we can say to ourselves, "If St. Francis did all these things, why can't I." When we know what we are to do, we must do it, and we are not stuck wandering in the abstract. Let us live the example of St. Francis. But how do we persevere in this? Again, we look to St. Francis, it was at the church dedicated to Our Lady that he was given the full understanding of his vocation, and where he named Mary as the Advocate and Queen of the Seraphic Order. The Franciscan saints too called upon Mary as their advocate. In the past decade, there has been at least one Franciscan canonized every year, let us also go to Mary so that we may some day be within that same number.
