Oct 31 – Homily – Fr Matthias: The Dual Purpose of Law

Views 1662

Homily #141031n ( 05min) Play - In today's Gospel, Father tells us it shows the dual purpose of God's Laws: first, to show the majesty and glory of God, and, second, to benefit us, show us how to live, and lead us to God. The Pharisees missed these points, and insisted on legalistic observance of the Law while also constraining it to external acts. This is what St. Paul meant when he said, "The letter kills, but the spirit gives life. We need to understand that our world also has lost this understanding of God's Laws, and it will only be convinced by seeing us live it out in joy, love, and self-sacrifice, and by that good example, come to know the goodness of God.
