I say amidst this darkness since I leave you to consider the Most Holy Virgin and St. John who, being at the foot of the Cross amidst the most frightening darkness, could no longer listen to Our Lord, nor could they see Him; and they had no other feeling than that of grief and sorrow. Although they were animated by faith, this was also in darkness as it was necessary that they participate in Our Lord’s abandonment.”
