“If the superior really loved his brothers, he would try to never let them know the reasoning behind his orders or his prohibitions of one thing or another, in order to avoid having a friar obey simply because the reasons are just, because by doing so the superior would rob them of the merit of supernatural obedience and he would limit them to fulfilling a merely natural and earthly obedience.” (cf.
