Historian confirms Immaculate Conception proclamed to combat Modern Errors

Ave Maria!

In response to some objections that there is no need for the proclamation of the fifth Marian Dogma: Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate, we embed here a CNA News Video and link to the associated article about Pius IX’s motive for proclaiming the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary which was recently confirmed by historian Francesco Guglietta. The historian affirms that combating the modern error of naturalism was the pope’s motive for highlighting this prerogative of Our Lady at that time. Today, in an era marked by a universal denial of the need for redemptive suffering and by its panicked flight from any suffering whatever, isn’t it time for the proclamation of the dogma of the Coredemption, which so brilliantly shows the vital efficacy of human suffering when offered up in union with Christ’s sufferings?

Notice, too, how the pope sought a consensus from the Bishop’s to help him come to his decision. Interesting, indeed, in light of the recent request by five cardinals to have all the bishops petition that the dogma be proclaimed.

Ave Maria!
