Joachim and Anne to the temple in Jerusalem which was an ancient custom in Judea among the most pious Jews. Thus early in her life Mary is associated with the temple, the dwelling place of God, foreshadowing how she would be the dwelling place of God as she bore him in her womb and in her heart.
