The Mother of my Lord

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Ave Maria Meditations

HAIL MARY, beloved Daughter of the eternal Father. Hail Mary, wonderful Mother of the Son. Hail Mary, faithful Spouse of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, my dear Mother, my loving Lady, my powerful Queen. You are all mine through your mercy, and I am all yours.

Take away from me all that may be displeasing to God. Cultivate in me everything that is pleasing to you. May the light of your faith dispel the darkness of my mind, your deep humility take the place of my pride; your continual sight of God fill my memory with his presence; the fire of the charity of your heart inflame the lukewarmness of my own heart; your virtues take the place of my sins; your merits be my enrichment and make up for all that is wanting in me before God.

My beloved Mother, grant that I may have no other spirit but your spirit, to know Jesus Christ and His divine will and to praise and glorify the Lord; that I may love God with burning love like yours.

Our Duties to Our Lady

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Ave Maria Meditations

After having fulfilled our obligations toward the Son of God, we have three duties to his holy Mother.

The first is to prostrate ourselves in heart and in spirit at her feet asking her pardon for the cruel death of her Son, and for the most bitter sufferings of her pure heart which we have caused. In reparation, we must offer her all the honor, glory, and praise which have been, are, and will be forever rendered to her in heaven as well as on earth by the Most Holy Trinity, by the sacred humanity of her Son, by all the angels, and all the saints. We must also give ourselves to our Lady as her slaves, promising that we wish to serve and honor her all our lives in every way possible to us.

The second thing we must do for the Blessed Virgin is to remember that Our Lord Jesus Christ, dying on the cross, gave her to us as our Mother… (more…)

FiNews: AirMaria Crew on the Road

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Ave Maria!

The AirMaria.com crew recently travelled to Amsterdam to film the “Vrouwe van Alle Volkeren” (The Lady of All Nations) prayer day held on Pentecost Sunday, May 27th 2012.

On our way to Amsterdam we met these members of a new Franciscan Community in Nijmegen, the Netherlands (the birth place of St Peter Canisius).

Friar Augustine took a wrong turn at a rotary and then while trying to get back on course drove the wrong way up a one-way street. On coming to the end of the one-way street there was no traffic light for traffic leaving that way so he waited for the bicycle green light (in the Netherlands, which has more bicycles than people [go figure!] they have traffic lights which alternate for cars, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians), and then while getting back into the traffic we spotted these Franciscans in a sea of bicyclists. We followed them a couple of hundred yards up the street and then hailed them over for a chat.

Broeder Jelle (Brother Grabriel) and Zuster Veronika (Sister Veronica) are two of the three members of this new Franciscan Community called “Franciscus’ Broeders en Zusters” (Francis’ Brothers and Sisters) – the third member of the community got separated from his brethren shortly before we spotted them. Brother Gabriel is the founder of the community, having previously been a first order Franciscan and getting permission from his superiors to leave and start this new order. He wanted to start a Franciscan order which lives a more radical form of poverty and is much more available to go out into the streets and meet the people where they are at. We wish him and his new community all the best. Their website is:

Descent of the Holy Spirit on Our Lady and the Apostles

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Ave Maria Meditations

Holy Virgin, I beg you: enable me to receive Jesus from the Spirit, according to the same process by which you bore Jesus. May my soul possess Jesus thanks to the Spirit through whom you conceived Jesus. May the grace to know Jesus be granted to me through the Spirit who enabled you to know how to possess Jesus and bring him forth.

May my littleness show forth the greatness of Jesus in virtue of the Spirit in whom you recognized yourself as the handmaid of the Lord, desiring that it be done to you according to the word of the Angel. May I love Jesus in the Spirit in whom you adored him as your Lord and looked after him as your Son.
(Saint Ildephonsus of Toledo)

Homily #120527 ( 19min) Play – On the Solemnity of Pentecost Fr. Specifically the Holy spirit will strengthen us in the Catholic essentials, including:

Our Lady of Kibeho

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Ave Maria Meditations

Prayer to Our Lady of Kibeho:

Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Word, Mother of all those who believe in Him and who welcome Him into their life, we are here before you to contemplate You. We believe that you are amongst us, like a mother in the midst of her children, even though we do not see You with our bodily eyes.

We bless You, the Sure Way that leads us to Jesus the Saviour, for all the favours which You endlessly pour out upon us, especially, that, in your meekness, You were gracious enough to appear miraculously in Kibeho, just when our world needed it most.

Grant us always the light and the strength necessary to accept, with all seriousness, Your call to us to be converted, to repent, and to live according  to your Son’s Gospel. Teach us how to pray with sincerity, and to love one another as He loved us, so that, just as You have requested, we may always be beautiful flowers diffusing their pleasant fragrance everywhere and upon everyone.

Holy Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, teach us to understand the value of the cross in our lives, so that whatever is still lacking to the sufferings of Christ we may fill up in our own bodies for His mystical Body, which is the Church.

And, when our pilgrimage on this earth comes to an end, may we live eternally with You in the kingdom of Heaven.
