Ave Maria! This short video captures some of the events which took place during the 1st year anniversary of WYD in Sydney. Events included talks by bishops and visiting priests, seminars and actual on-the-street evangelization of passersby, Holy Mass, adoration, vocations expo, and entertainment nights. The week-long event was organized by SCENE (Sydney Congress Embracing the New Evangelisation) and was designed to keep the fire of the Faith, kindled at WYD, burning brightly in the hearts of the youth. |

Ave Maria!– August’s Theme: Spiritual Aridity “The state of the soul placed in interior straits is sad, and truly it seems to us that it is all over for us, and that, in the end, the Lord has withdrawn from us because He is tired of putting up with us. Meanwhile, things are quite different. […] the Lord […] is always close to us, rather, He is within us and He invisibly animates us to sustain the battle.” |

Ave Maria!– August’s Theme: Spiritual Aridity “Never lose heart; place all of your trust in God alone; await all strength from Him and do not overwhelmingly desire to be freed from the present state of aridity. Let the Holy Spirit work in you. Abandon yourself to all His transports, and do not fear. He is so wise, gentle and discreet as to cause nothing other than good.” |
Sorry, come back tomorrow. +++ |
Ave Maria!– August’s Theme: Spiritual Aridity “Do not be discouraged in the face of the trials to which the Divine Mercy wishes to subject you. He still wants to try you and strengthen you at the school of sacrifice and pain. Do not be discouraged; pray with humility and remember the calm after the rain, the light after the darkness, the placid quiet after the tempest and the whirlwind. The merciful help of the paternal love of our God, and the great gifts of His divine majesty, will certainly surround with glory the faith of those who have persevered.” |

Ave Maria!– August’s Theme: Spiritual Aridity “It is God Who permits that your heart be in aridity and darkness; therefore, it is not harshness but sweetness. Do not be discouraged in the way you have undertaken because everything is pleasing to God. As He wants your heart to always be faithful to Him, He will not allow things to worsen more than you can handle, and He will bear the burden with you, so that He will see that you bend your shoulders willingly.” |
The heroic prayers and tears with fortitude and trust made over long years not only converted her son, Augustine, who would become one of the great Doctors of the Church, but also made her a saint as well. We have much to learn from her example!
St. Monica-Feast Day August 27th her son, St. Augustine, Doctor of the Church-Feast Day August 28th
From “The Confessions” of St. Augustine The day when she was to leave this life was drawing near – a day known to You, though we were ignorant of it – she and I happened to be alone, through (as I believe) the mysterious workings of Your will. We stood leaning against a window which looked out on a garden within the house where we were staying, at Ostia on the Tiber; for there, far from the crowds, we were recruiting our strength after the long journey, in order to prepare ourselves for our voyage overseas. We were alone, conferring very intimately. Forgetting what lay in the past, and stretching out to what was ahead, we inquired between ourselves, in the light of present truth, into what You are and what the eternal life of the saints would be like, for eye has not seen nor ear heard nor human heart conceived it. |
Ave Maria!– August’s Theme: Spiritual Aridity 26- “Aridity is a trial of fire, wholly different, however, from the fire of this base world. Between these two fires, though, there is this similarity, that is that both of them destroy and consume everything that opposes the attainment of their goal.” 27- “My soul is placed by the Lord to rot in suffering. My state is bitter; it is terrible; it is extremely frightful. Everything is obscure around me and within me: obscurity of the intellect, afflictions of the will; I am tormented in my memory. The thought of faith alone sustains me: in my innermost being I am bruised with pain, and at the same time, afflicted and anxious from divine love.” |
