St. Joseph the Worker

Thursday, April 30th, 2009
Ave Maria Meditations

Prayer for the Spirit of Work
Glorious St. Joseph,
model of all who pass their life in labor,
obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance
to atone for my many sins;
to work conscientiously,
putting the call of duty above my own inclinations;
to work with gratitude and joy,
considering it an honor to use and develop by my labor
the gifts I have received from God;
to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience,
without ever recoiling before weariness or difficulties.
Help me to work, above all, with purity of intention
and with detachment from self,
having always before my eyes the hour of death
and the accounting which I must render
of time lost, talents wasted, good omitted,
and vain complacency in success,
which is so fatal to the work of God.
All for Jesus,
all for Mary,
all after your example,
O Patriarch Joseph!
This shall be my watchword in life and in death.

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

April 29 – St. Pio Daily – Submitting Your Judgment

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

“Not wanting to submit one’s own judgment to that of others is a sign of little docility; it is a much too evident sign of secret pride. Take courage, then; avoid falling again and keep an eye out for this wretched vice, knowing that it displeases Jesus, because it is written that ‘God resists the proud, but to the humble He gives His grace’”.

Ave Maria Meditations

ST. LOUIS–MARIE GRIGNION DE MONTFORT

1673 – 1716
Feast:April 28

PRAYER TO JESUS:  O most loving Jesus, deign to let me pour forth my gratitude before Thee, for the grace Thou hast bestowed upon me in giving me to Thy holy Mother through the devotion of Holy Bondage, that she may be my advocate in the presence of Thy majesty and my support in my extreme misery.

Alas, O Lord! I am so wretched that without this dear Mother I should be certainly lost. Yes, Mary is necessary for me at Thy side and everywhere that she may appease Thy just wrath, because I have so often offended Thee; that she may save me from the eternal punishment of Thy justice, which I deserve; that she may contemplate Thee, speak to Thee, pray to Thee, approach Thee and please Thee; that she may help me to save my soul and the souls of others; in short, Mary is necessary for me that I may always do Thy holy will and seek Thy greater glory in all things.

April 28 – St. Pio Daily – Double Crucifixion

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Vices

“To the crucifixion of the flesh is united the crucifixion of the vices and of concupiscence. Now, the vices are all sinful habits; the concupiscence is the passions. It is necessary to constantly mortify and crucify both one and the other so that they do not drive the flesh to sin: who limits himself only to mortification of the flesh is similar to that fool who builds without a foundation…

Gianna Beretta was born in Magenta (Milan) October 4, 1922. Already as a youth she willingly accepted the gift of faith and the clearly Christian education that she received from her excellent parents.
