Apr 30 – St. Maximilian – A Violation Masked as the Will of God

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Obedience

“Sometimes the superiors, in order to avoid a greater evil (e.g. the non-execution of an order or a hypocritical execution because done with interior aversion), will yield to the friar who asks with insistence. But, at the moment of judgment, how the Lord God will impute to this soul a violation, given that we are speaking precisely of a violation, even though masked as the will of God?!…We shouldn’t be surprised, therefore, that this soul, constantly agitated in a continual effort to do his own will, always encounters crosses and sufferings which gain him no merit. He is an unfaithful soul who the Divine Spouse will vomit from His mouth – Apoc. 3:16.” (cf. SK #329)

FiNews – A Year of Air Maria – Update

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Ave Maria!

Well, a year has gone by since our official start last March 25th. We passed the 100,000 marker on our visitor counter since we installed it in April last year. Now it reads 130,000. We estimate 150,000 visitors in total (including those before April 2007). In addition, we’ve produced over 600 videos and over 1,100 posts. Deo Gratias!

We wanted to celebrate on March 25th but with Easter coming we had to wait until the Annunciation (this year it was on the 31st of March) but then we needed to get the server updated and that proved more difficult than expected. In fact we were down most of that day. But now that we have the new server up and running and with more features on the site than ever before, its time to pop the champagne! (more…)

Ave Maria!

Fiddleback chasubles and Franciscan sandals come together in the extraordinary form of the Mass (Traditional Latin Mass) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary of the Franciscans of the Immaculate. The video is put to beautiful music from the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate, our sister order. The music was recorded in Italy and is a fine testimony to the high quality of their music program which, combined with the friar’s, is playing a major part in spearheading the liturgical music reform in Italy.

Apr 29 – St. Maximilian – Bending the Will of God

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Obedience

“If the superiors order something that is not according to the conviction and will of the friars, there may be some friars who show dissatisfaction or bring up reasons to the contrary, but in such a way that the superior clearly understands that he will displease them if he does not take into consideration their point of view. These friars do not present their arguments in order to fulfill the duty of presenting to the superior useful or necessary information of which he is unaware and then to hear in his decision the will of God, but they do it in order to induce the superior the take into consideration their opinions and to fulfill their will and not his own, because they are convinced that, thus it will be better. With what displeasure, or even with what desperation, those friars, at the moment of death, will regard that bending of the will of God to their own will, rather than ‘bending’ themselves, humbling themselves and conforming themselves to the will of God.” (cf. SK #329)

Apr 28 – St. Maximilian – Extinguishing the Light of Faith

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Obedience

“How much displeasure is given to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by those religious who, through lack of continuous vigilance over themselves, through negligence in incessant prayer by means of the ejaculatory prayers, through lack of resolve to do combat with things that appear of little importance, slowly extinguish the splendor of the light of faith that knows the will of God Himself by means of blind obedience, and who begin to see ever more in their superiors that which even the pagans can discern, that is to say, men who are more or less wise, more or less prudent, older or younger, bigger or smaller.” (cf. SK #329)

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Ave Maria!April’s Theme: Obedience

“The souls who continually love God cannot live without continually renouncing themselves in order to continually burn and grow on fire ever more with the flame of true love that does not consist in sweet sensations, but in a will which is always ready, everywhere and in everything, to fulfill only the will of God, that they discover with the eyes of faith, and love even more than their own lives, in holy obedience.” (cf. SK #329)

Homily #080426 ( 12min) Play – Our Lady of Good Counsel is best known from the Litany of Loretto added by Pope Leo XIII in 1903 but for the Franciscan of the Immaculate it has special meaning because our Mother House in Frigento, Italy has this Marian title. Listen to Fr. as he explains the meaning of the Gift of Counsel as the perfector of prudence. He also explains how Our Lady is always under the influence of this Gift since She is always guided by the Holy Spirit, who is Her Spouse. Ave Maria!
