Ave Maria!
“She is truly Coredemptrix…that’s the perennial teaching of the Church, whether you like the word or not, whether you like the teaching or not, it is in fact what the Church has always taught…that’s what makes us Catholics – that we believe that what we do counts!”
Check out this great homily that Fr. Angelo Mary Geiger gave this morning, Saturday Feb. 17th 2007.

Homily #14 – Fr. Bonaventure gives a beautiful homily at this votive Mass of St. Pio of Pietrelcina>>> Play |
|

Ave Maria!
“We must die to ourselves each day”, “Die to our own opinions”, “Die to our self love”.
Phrases like these are very unpopular in this world where the “Unholy Trinity” are glorified i.e. Me, Myself, & I.
Fr. Bonaventure beautifully explains that we must die to ourselves and bear the brandmarks of Christ in our own bodies so that our Heavenly Father will recognize His Son in us when we die, and, like Our Blessed Lord, that after we die we may be found lying in the arms of His Blessed Mother.

Ave Maria!
Fr. Bonaventure Mary McGuire, F.I. preaches the homily on the Gospel of Mark where Peter confesses that Jesus is the Messiah at Caesarea Philippi. By this confession Peter is given the keys of the Kingdom of God. But when he tries to convince the Lord that He should not undergo the Crucifixion, Our Lord reprimanded him. By this example Fr. Bonaventure tells us how we must submit to God and the Church and Our Lady in humility and often to take up our cross in order to gain eternal life.

|
Ave Maria!
Using the Biblical verses Exodus 3:14, the Burning Bush that speaks to Moses and Luke 1:26, the Annunciation of the Angel Gabriel to Mary, John Primeau discusses with Fr. Peter Mary Fehlner, F.I. the Perpetual Virginity and Immaculate Conception of Our Lady as signs of Our Lord being sent by the Father. Fr. Peter makes the connection between the Bush that burns with the Spirit of the Lord but is not consumed and the Virginity of Our Lady that is made fruitful by the Holy Spirit while not being consumed, she remains a virgin throughout.
He also discusses the meaning of the Greek words “Chaire, Kecharitomene,” “Hail, Full of Grace,” referring to Mary’s Immaculate Conception.

Ave Maria!
As Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate we have the privilege of Celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes today (Feb. 12th) as this Feast was suppressed as it fell on Sunday Feb. 11th.
“Hail, full of Grace,” is the title the Angel Gabriel gave to Our Lady at the Annunciation (which we hear in today’s Gospel). Fr. Angelo explains why the Angel Gabriel called Her “Full of Grace” and focusses on the words of Our Lady to St. Bernadette when She said, “I am the Immaculate Conception.”

Ave Maria!
On the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time and World Day of Prayer for the Sick Fr. Angelo Mary Geiger preaches the homily on the Beatitudes in Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount in Matthew. He underscores how Our Lord’s suffering on the Cross makes sense of the Beatitudes because in conquering death He makes all suffering endured in union with His to be a blessing, including the suffering of the sick. He mentions the importance of the last rights and sacrament of the sick.

The Golden Thread #4 – Fr. Peter Fehlner gives a Scotistic view of Freedom and Obligation >>> Play |
|
|
|
Ave Maria!
Using the ever-present highway signs, “Buckle-up, Its The Law,” Fr. Peter Fehlner, F.I. springs into the subject of obligation and freedom according to the teaching of Bl. John Duns Scotus. These signs demonstrate the paradox that the more independent we get from God, the more arbitrary law becomes, the more buckling-up we must do and so the very freedom we seek is lost and along with it our very personhood. Freedom, in the sense of autonomy from God, is not what makes us true persons, but rather love, and love is never more pure than when loving God. And loving God involves being thankful to God for creating us and redeeming us on the Cross. Using the old version of “thank you,” which is, “much obliged,” he makes the connection between love and obligation and thus between obligation and being a true person.
He covers law, obligation, freedom, secularity, communes, license, conscience, synderisis, pragmatism, the difference between contentment and happiness. Whew! all in less than ten minutes. So buckle-up! You’ll need it with this one…
Ave Maria!
