The Purifying Fire: Understanding Purgatory & Holy Souls – Nov 02 – Homily – Fr Bernard

 

Fr. Bernard M. Salter gives the homily for the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, on Nov 02, 2025,  on how Purgatory is a necessary purification for souls who died in God's friendship but still suffer from imperfections and disordered self-love. The suffering in Purgatory is often described by mystics as a pain caused by the soul’s own unworthiness rather than God's wrath. The faithful are called to exercise charity by praying for these Holy Souls, especially through Mass and indulgences, while striving to avoid Purgatory themselves by embracing a life of perfect divine love (charity) on earth.
