Is It ‘Really Weird’ to Talk About Jesus? – Aug 03 – Homily – Fr Alan

 

Fr. Alan B. Maria Wharton gives the homily at from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Aug 03, 2025), on the profound spiritual deception of the world, fixated on material wealth, which is a confusion of the means of life with it's true end: life with and in God for eternity. Modern secular culture actively promotes this error by excluding God from public discourse, thereby creating a society characterized by the despair and vanity, as described in the readings for today's Liturgy of the Word.

The Christian response is to personally reject this materialistic focus, to emulate Our Lady by centering one's life on God, and to have the courage to share this truth with others, even when it is deemed "weird."
