Our Lady of the Angels and the “Pardon of Assisi” – Aug 02 – Homily – Fr Bernard

Fr. Bernard M. Salter gives the homily from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels, on Aug 02, 2025 (Franciscan feast and traditional day for gaining the "Portiuncula Indulgence" or "Pardon of Assisi"). Father explains how Franciscan spirituality seeks conformity to the poor, crucified Christ, beginning with devotion to the Virgin Mary. Our Lady is the spiritual cradle for the Franciscan Order, exemplified by Saint Francis's love for the church of Saint Mary of the Angels.

Father also highlights the significance of the plenary indulgence, St. Francis’s gift of grace in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This special grace may be obtained under the requisite conditions, for the forgiveness of sins and temporal punishment, in all Franciscan and parish churches.
