Easter Reflection: What If We Had Not Been Redeemed? – Apr 20 – Homily – Fr Bernard
Views 30
Fr. Bernard M. Salter gives the homily from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night of Easter (Apr 19, 2025), beginning the Easter reflection by considering a verse in the Easter Proclamation sung at the Vigil Mass of Easter:
Our birth would have been no gain,
had we not been redeemed.
O wonder of your humble care for us!
O love, O charity beyond all telling,
to ransom a slave you gave away your Son!
If we had not been redeemed, we would have no grace, no divine life, no eternal life. Sin had deprived man of the highest good, but Christ in dying for us, in redeeming us, restored to us the greatest benefit God wishes to give us. Therefore, Father exhorts us to not be foolish and turn our backs on the gift, but turn to Christ and accept, in him, the life God wishes for us, the life of Christ the Risen Redeemer, and share in his Resurrection.
Our Lady, Our Mother is our greatest help in bringing us to Christ, in Who is our hope for eternal life.
Ave Maria!
