The Burning Bush, “I AM,” & Mary’s “I am the Immaculate Conception” – Mar 23 – Homily – Fr Andre

Fr. Andre M. Feain gives the homily from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for the Third Sunday of Lent (Mar 23, 2025), expounding on the implicit Marian dimension of our Lenten program of purification and sanctification. With a view to the Annunciation to be celebrated later this week, Father focuses on the necessity of devotion and recourse to Mary, both for the fulfilment of God's plan of salvation.
Looking at the Old Testament Marian type in today's reading from Exodus, Father points out the association between Our Lady's "I am the Immaculate Conception" of her apparition at Lourdes with the Lord's "I AM who am," spoken from the burning bush. Making the connection between the Annunciation and the Incarnation, Father concludes with an instruction on the struggle between the Woman, her Seed, and the Ancient Serpent, a struggle which rages in the Church today. On a final Lenten note, Father reminds us to rely on prayerful supplication to and through Mary, so that through our "Marianization," we can better imitate Christ and with her help, become sanctified.
