Broken and Sorrowful, Restored by God’s Love – Mar 22 – Homily – Fr Maximilian

Fr. Maximilian M. Warnisher gives the homily from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for Saturday of the Second Week of Lent (Mar 22, 2025), on how in our sin we are broken, but God in His love waits to restore us. Reflecting on the parable of the "prodigal son," Fr. Maximilian points out that the parable is perfect for Lent, calling us to repentance, forgiveness, and conversion. This call and this practice are to be our way of life beyond Lent, as well.
God is love, seeks to share His love with us, but we pull away to seek ourselves. In our selfishness, we find only misery. Coming to our senses, we must turn back to God. Acknowledging our guilt, we must repent, and humbly admit our unworthiness. God is waiting to forgive us, to restore us.
Ave Maria!
