Freedom Flows from Fidelity to Gospel Truth – Jan 26 – Homily – Fr Bernard

Views 46

Fr. Bernard M. Salter gives the homily from Our Lady's Chapel, New Bedford, MA, for the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Jan 26, 2025), on the freedom that flows from fidelity to truth, which leads to a clear perspective on the Gospel.

The good works related in the reading from Isaiah, as fulfilled in Jesus Christ, are primarily spiritual in meaning. The Gospel is not a social manifesto, but a guide to eternal life through Jesus, the author of Life. The Lord came to free us of spiritual blindness and spiritual impoverishment. Relativism is a spiritual affliction that besets mankind today, rejecting the notion of universal Truth. Rampant pride is really spiritual impoverishment.

Mary is the one human creature who reflects perfectly God's intention for the human condition elevated by Jesus' redemption. The freedom of Christ means liberation from sin. Our Lady will help us live the good Gospel life that will enable us to receive all the benefits Jesus offers.
