Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Oct 02, 2024, Feast of the Guardian Angels, on how guardian angels guide and protect us daily, often in unseen ways, and we should thank them and Our Lady, Queen of Angels.
Each person is assigned an angel to protect and guide them towards eternal life. These angels often intervene in unseen ways, yet sometimes, as Father shared, their presence is more apparent. He recounted a story of Father Kurt Vogel from Kansas City, who experienced the miraculous intervention of angels in his life as a child. While driving to a speech therapy session, his mother, exhausted from lack of sleep, fell asleep at the wheel. At that moment, she felt what she described as the wings of her guardian angel guide her hands on the steering wheel. Simultaneously, Father Kurt, who had a significant speech impediment, spoke clearly for the first time. Their van spun out of control, but they were unharmed. After the event, a mysterious woman, later believed to be his guardian angel, helped them. This experience led Fr. Kurt to a profound realization of God's protection and guidance through His angels, particularly under the care of Our Lady, Queen of Angels. Father encouraged everyone to be grateful for the constant presence and protection of their guardian angels, even when we are not aware of their help.
