Our Lady Said This to St Maximilian – Sep 11 – Homily – Fr Matthias

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 11, 2024, on how, like St. Maximilian Kolbe, we must surrender to Our Lady as time runs out, trusting that she will guide us to Heaven.

Father begins by reflecting on the reading where St. Paul says, "the time is running out" (1 Corinthians 7:29 - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/7?29). He speaks about aging, comparing life to a hill where, while climbing, the destination isn't visible. As we age, we reach the top, see mortality ahead, and realize the need to surrender to God's will. St. Maximilian Kolbe, in 1937 at the age of 43, had a similar awareness of his destiny. He called his brothers to tell them of the great joy and peace he received from the Immaculate Virgin, assuring him of Heaven.

Father recounts St. Maximilian's story of receiving this grace in Japan, where Our Lady assured him of Heaven despite ongoing trials. He advises his fellow friars to simply love and serve Our Lady daily, trusting that she will lead them safely to Heaven.

Father emphasizes that devotion to Our Lady is a sign of predestination, not a guarantee of Heaven, but a sign that we are on the right path. Like St. Maximilian, who lived in peace after his confirmation in grace, we too can find peace by surrendering ourselves to Our Lady and letting her guide us.
