Views 130
Fr John Lawrence gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Aug 12, 2024, on how Saint Jane Frances de Chantal's life of faith, charity, and resilience led to the founding of the Visitation Order and her eventual canonization.
Saint Jane Frances de Chantal, born in 1572 in Dijon, experienced a life marked by faith, love, and tragedy. She married Baron Christophe de Chantal and had six children, but her world shattered when her husband died in a hunting accident. Left widowed at 28, she felt called to religious life. In 1602, she had a vision of St. Francis de Sales, who became her spiritual guide, leading to the founding of the Visitation Order in 1611, which focused on charity. Despite hardships, including personal losses and the plague, St. Jane's faith never wavered. She established numerous monasteries and remained dedicated to her mission until her death in 1641. She was canonized in 1767.
