St. Mary Magdalene’s Transformative Journey – Jul 22 – Homily – Fr Ignatius

Fr Ignatius gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Jul 22, 2024, where he highlights God's plan for us to become more like Jesus through His grace, as illustrated by St. Mary Magdalene's transformation, while the devil aims to deform us away from God's image.

God's plan is for us to become more like Jesus, reflecting His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27 - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/genesis/1?27). By Christ's grace, we are called to be more like Him, uniquely like the saints. The devil's plan, however, is to lead us to sin and away from God's image. Father uses St. Mary Magdalene's story to illustrate this. Before her conversion, she was possessed by seven demons, symbolizing the seven capital sins, distorting her true self (Luke 8:2 - https://bible.usccb.org/bible/luke/8?2). But with Christ's grace, she transformed into the saint she was meant to be. This transformation is also experienced through Eucharistic adoration, helping us become the saints God created us to be.
